The administration of President Buhari has reportedly spent no fewer than 3.5 trillion on Covid-19 related matters.
This was made known by Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello during his interview on Channels TV Sunrise Daily.
The governor who stressed that only 2 billion Naira was required to fix major commercially viable roads in Nigeria, wondered how 3.5 trillion was expended on Covid-19.
“A committee on Infrastructure set up under Governor Nasir El-Rufai came up with a report that only 2 billion Naira was required to fix major commercially viable roads in Nigeria
“That report has been gathering dust for over one year.
“However, we have expended 3.5 trillion on Covid-19 and related matters, that is unprecedented, how did we spend that money?” he quizzed.
Bello’s concerns are not unconnected to reports that The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC has only tested less than 5% percent of Nigerians for Covid-19.
Also, Doctors are hardly paid their hazard allowances and there are just few Personal Protective Equipment PPE available for frontline health workers to combat the virus in Nigeria.
Consequently, over 1000 health workers have tested positive for COVID-19 in Nigeria due to limited access to PPE.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC has recorded 838 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, December 27, 2020.
