Egyptian club Zamalek on Sunday edged RS Berkane 1-0 to win this season’s CAF Confederation Cup in Cairo.
The Egyptian giants headed into the return fixture at the Cairo International Stadium trailing 2-1 from the first leg in Morocco a week ago.
But roared on by a fervent home crowd draped in Zamalek’s traditional white and red, they produced a stirring fightback to be crowned kings of the continent for the second time.
Sunday’s victory ensured Zamalek’s second success in the Confederation Cup.
They beat Berkane on penalties after drawing the 2019 final 1-1 on aggregate.
Egypt can complete a double in the African club competitions on Saturday when Zamalek’s arch domestic rivals Al Ahly host Esperance of Tunisia in the Champions League final second leg.
The first leg in Tunis on Saturday ended goalless.
For Berkane, their dream of a third Confederation Cup triumph in four years slipped agonisingly through their grasp after coming so close to glory on the road once again.
