The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has dismissed claims suggesting that Guinea could be stripped of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations hosting right.
Reacting to viral reports on the internet about Nigeria pushing for a joint bid with neigbours Benin Republic to host the biennial showpiece, CAF said there were no discussions that the tournament could be moved away from Guinea
Recall that President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick revealed on Tuesday that his country and Benin are in discussion to co-host the competition.
The current political trends in Guinea has led to concerns over security and organisation of the competition.
However, an official of CAF told BBC Sport Africa that neither his organisation nor Guinean football officials have discussed ceding the hosting right to another country
“The host for the 2025 tournament remain Guinea and that has not changed,” the official stated.
“We’ve not discussed anything about a replacement or received any communication from Guinea about the inability to host. At this very moment, everything is on track for Guinea to host and there is no reason to suggest otherwise.”
