The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has concluded plans to inaugurate the first-ever African Club Association (ACA).
Already, the continental football body has started sending out invitation letters to the elite clubs, including to Nigeria’s Enyimba to participate in the event.
October 5, 2023 has been scheduled as inauguration date.
Elite club Presidents, Chief Executive Officers and Chairmen are expected to grace the occasion, according to CAF.
Like Africa, Like Europe
Similar association has been existing in Europe.
It is referred to as the European Club Association (ECA) and the President of the French Ligue One club Paris St. German, Al Khalefi, is presently the president of the association.
New Prize Money For African Football League
Meanwhile, CAF has increased the money for the maiden African Football League.
Eight clubs have already been selected to be the pioneer clubs for the competition.
According to CAF, all the teams will get $900,000 each as participation fee, as against the $500,000 that was earlier scheduled.
The semi-finalists will get $1.7 million for reaching the final four of the competition and finalist to earn $2.8 million.
The competition is expected to kick off in October with Nigeria’s Enyimba hosting Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the first leg.
More Money For Super Cup Winners
Also, the continental soccer body has approved a 130% increase in the prize money of the CAF Super Cup competition.
Newly-crowned champions, USMA from Algeria will now take home $500 000 following their victory against Al Ahly of Egypt during their Friday night fixture in Taif, Saudi Arabia.
The 2023 runners-up, Al Ahly will get $250 000. Previously the runners-up got $125 000.
Before Now
Previously, winners of the competition took home $200, 000.
In 2022, the total Prize money of CAF Super Cup was $325 000.
In 2023, the total prize money has gone up to $750 000.
