U.S. Soccer has announced that its women’s national team training camp has been moved from Los Angeles to Miami due to the wildfires devastating Southern California.
This was disclosed by U.S. Soccer’s Sporting Director, Matt Crocker.
“The safety of our players and staff is always our top priority, and with the fires still burning, many areas in a state of emergency, and the air quality next week unknown, we made the decision to move the camps,” he said.
The camp for the Paris Olympic champions will start three days later than planned and will run from 17 to 23 January at Inter Miami’s Florida Blue Training Centre in Ft. Lauderdale instead of Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Fox News reports.
The wildfires in California have caused US swimming legend Gary Hall to lose several personal belongings, including his 10 Olympic medals and a swimming pool.
Hall, a five-time Olympian, lived in a rented home in the Pacific Palisades, which is among the affected areas.
