Manaouda Malachie, Cameroon’s Minister of Public Health has enacted a nationwide ban on skin-whitening goods.
The importation, manufacture, and distribution of cosmetic items containing the three bleaching chemicals hydroquinone, its derivatives, and corticosteroids have been prohibited in the country of Central Africa, according to the minister.
The minister suspended a drinkable skin-whitening beverage that has gained popularity in the nation last week after he issued a warning that some of the drink’s ingredients might be toxic.
He cautioned against using unregulated products since they may result in skin cancer, skin rashes, or other health risks.
The use of skin-whitening creams has increased in the country of Central Africa in recent months. However, dermatologists and medical professionals have cautioned that the practice may be hazardous.
