An early morning fire outbreak has destroyed a section of the State Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Kano.
Heritage Times gathered that the fire incident, which occurred around 9:30 am at the Data Processing Centre of the INEC office, burnt laptop computers, desktops and the entire building.
Confirming the confirmed the incident to newsmen, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi said “athough no life was lost, the inferno destroyed the ICT office and a block in the administrative office of the commission.”
According to him it was the quick intervention of the State Fire Service and Federal Fire Service as well as the Airport Fire Service that saved the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
Some staff members, who witnessed the incident, noted that the fire started following the fluctuations of electricity power voltage which abruptly resulted in the blasting of some air conditioners at the centre.
“In the data centre are laptops, batteries and other related gadgets for data processing activities,” one of them said.
They added that close to the data centre is a box containing card readers but they were not affected.
