A former Cameroon head coach, Rigobert Song, has now been appointed as the new manager of the Central African Republic (CAR) senior national team.
The announcement was made public through a decree issued by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Civic Education.
The 48-year-old, who was dismissed as Cameroon coach in February 2024 after the Indomitable Lions’ round-of-16 exit at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), steps into his first coaching role outside his home country.
Song’s appointment comes at a crucial time for CAR, a team grappling with a disappointing run in AFCON 2025 qualifiers and currently sitting fourth in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying group.
According to the terms of his contract , Song will be assisted by a team of experienced personnel, including Éloge Enza-Yamissi, Sébastien Ngato, and Éric Cabalero.
