Barcelona can now heave a sigh of relief following the inclusion of 28 – year – old German goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the squad to face Dynamo Kiev tonight having recovered from a serious knee injury.
Ter Stegen has been out on the sideline since mid August after he was forced to undergo surgery over a tendon damage he sustained.
The German has not featured for the Catalonians since the start of the 2020/21 campaign; a development that paved way for Brazilian keeper, Neto to prove his mettle between the sticks.
However, Ter Stergen’s absence has been greatly missed owing to Barca’s shaky start to the season leading to a slip in the Liga standings to 12th having only managed to two wins from their opening six games.
It seems Koeman’s men have decided to save their best performances for the Champions League; coming off the back of comfortable victories over Ferencvaros and Juventus to storm to the top of Group G.
While Barcelona set their gaze on a 100 percent record when they welcome Croatian side, Dynamo Kiev, it is not clear whether or not the German keeper would be handed his first start since he last featured in his side 8 – 2 thumping in the hands of Bayern Munich in last season.
The 28-year-old’s future in Catalonia had been the subject of much speculation over the summer, as talks over a contract extension seemingly hit a brick wall due to his lofty wage demands.
Barca, finally reached an agreement with Ter Stegen, who penned a contract extension until 2025.
