Chelsea on Saturday showed their old stuff with a comeback 4-1 win against Burnley at Turf Moor in one of the Premier League games played same day.
At about same time, Manchester United redeemed themselves with a late added time victory over Brentford at Old Trafford, courtesy of Scott McTominay’s brace.
Though both Chelsea and United had a first half to forget in the two matches, their second half displays gave hope of better times ahead for the struggling clubs.
How The Big Guys Showed Their Stuff
For the Blues, Winger Raheem Sterling stole the show, forcing an own-goal to open the scoring for Chelsea, scoring his own, and then delivering a blistering assist late in the match.
Burnley opened the scoring just 15 minutes in through 18-year-old winger Wilson Odobert, and the young Frenchman caused havoc all match long.
With the opening goal in their hands, it looked as though the match was Burnley’s to lose, but Sterling’s forced own-goal just before the halftime whistle gave the Blues a lifeline, and sparked the comeback.
Cole Palmer doubled Chelsea’s lead from the spot six minutes into the second-half, and Sterling added a third in the 61st minute.
The England international didn’t stop there, though, as the 28-year-old delivered a brilliant assist for Nicolas Jackson with 15 minutes to spare. The result marked three-straight victories for Chelsea.
Red Devils Magical Comeback, Other Results
On their part, United were staring at a third successive home league loss for the first time since 1979 thanks to Mathias Jensen’s first-half effort.
McTominay was only brought on with three minutes remaining as Manager Erik ten Hag desperately searched for salvation – and the Scot duly provided it.
In the other games, Everton surprisingly whip Bournemouth 3-0, while Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest played a goalless draw.
Before then, inform Tottenham Hotspur edged Luton Town 1-0, just as Fulham defeated Sheffield United 3 – 1.
