Head Coach Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso will return to the Chelsea squad for Wednesday’s Champions League fixture in Lille.
Azpilicueta’s game time has been recently limited due to injury and illness, while Alonso has been kept out of the squad having recently contracted coronavirus.
However, at a time when Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi may remain out of contention, the Spanish duo could start at right wing-back and left wing-back respectively.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Tuchel said: “Marcos is ready to start. Azpi is ready to start. We will try to have them (James and Hudson-Odoi) later in training but it will be a very tight race. We will take the decision after training.”
“As you know, they were not involved and the injuries that they had, let’s see if it is worth the risk or even possible.”
Chelsea head into the contest holding a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, given to them by goals from Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic.
