Romelu Lukaku has admitted that his return to Chelsea was a ‘mistake’ and insists he’s in for the ‘biggest challenge’ of his career next season.
Lukaku is back at Inter Milan just a year after leaving the Italian club for the Blues in a mega transfer worth £98 million.
The 29-year-old failed to get going at Stamford Bridge, scoring a measly 15 goals across all competitions last season.
But he’s back at the scene where he enjoyed the best period of his career, having scored an impressive 64 goals in 95 games for Inter.
Speaking upon his return to Inter Milan, Lukaku revealed his move back to Chelsea was a ‘mistake’.
“The biggest challenge of my career will be this season here. I left. It was a mistake,” he said during Inter’s kit launch.
“Now I am happy to be wearing this jersey, the team knows what we need to do, it’ll be a great challenge this season and we need to continue like this.”
The Belgium forward added: “I realised last season when I was in England, just how important Inter are in the world.
“The club’s profile is improving on an international scale, the social media approach is really important too and you can see how we act in the locker room, in training, our hugs and jokes.
“Milan is a wonderful city and that is why I kept the old apartment when I went to London, because my mother was coming here all the time and I wanted to return too.”
