Chelsea wrestled to a hard fought 1-0 victory over Brentford on Saturday at the Brentford Community Stadium to go top of the Premier League table.
Ben Chilwell volleyed home a deflected cross from Ceasar Azpilicueta just before half-time to hand the visitors the lead.
The hosts slowly got back into the game at half-tme, mounting pressure on the opposition’s defence, but were unlucky.
Chelsea goalkeeper, Eduard Mendy did put up some superb saves late on first from substitute Saman Ghoddos, then with his face from Pontus Jansson at point-blank range, before tipping over Christian Norgaard’s stunning overhead kick in stoppage time.
After wins for Liverpool and Man City earlier on Saturday, the pressure came on Chelsea to keep up the pace in what promises to be a tight title race, and they returned to the top of the pile with their sixth win of the season.
Brentford lost for just the second time this term, and are seventh after eight games.
In the other fixture, Leicester City pegged back twice to beat Manchester United 4-2 at King Power Stadium.
The defeat ends United’s English league record 29-game unbeaten run away from home.
