Coaches drawn from parts of Africa and beyond are currently attending a two-day symposium organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
The event also attracted former top African footballers of all time.
According to CAF through a statement, CAF Ambassadors Jay Jay Okocha (Nigeria), Elhadji Diouf (Senegal) are joined by other African football icons including Antoine Bell, Gadji Celi (Cote d’Ivoire) at the symposium.
The statement revealed that the event taking place between September 12 and 13, 2024 also have former Cameroon goalkeeper Bell, South African defender Mark Fish, and Ghana’s Otto Addo, now coach of the Black Stars, in attendance.
It is a star-studded line-up that also includes former Nigeria defender Augustine Eguavoen, Fulham legend Luis Boa Morte, who is the current coach of Guinea-Bissau, and Senegal’s Pape Thiaw, among others.
“The symposium will mark the first-ever such meeting of African coaches, with 50 national team coaches from across CAF’s Member Associations expected to attend.
“It will provide a platform for an exchange of ideas and experiences among Africa’s top coaches, including Emerse Faé, who led Côte d’Ivoire to the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2023,” the statement added.
Heritage Times HT reports that aside from the top coaches of African origin, there is also the presence of a hand full of foreign coaches based in the continent including Gernot Rohr, now head coach of Benin Republic and Portuguse Jose Peseiro, former Nigeria’s Super Eagles handler.
