Team Nigeria has appointed two captains for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Blessing Oborodudu who won gold in wrestling at the previous edition in Gold Coast, and Paralympics Bronze medalist Nnamdi innocent have been selected to lead the Nigerian contingent at the sporting event.
However, all eyes will be on athletics duo of Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume following their jaw-breaking performances at the just concluded World Athletics Championship in Eugene, Oregon.
Amusan had early on Monday set a World Record, twice, to win the 100m hurdles in style at the World Championships.
Her victory and another great performance by Brume in the long jump meant Team Nigeria ended their campaign at the World Championships on a spectacular note; winning a gold and a silver medal on the final day of action.
Nigeria will be participating in nine sports namely athletics, wrestling, judo, para-athletics, boxing, table tennis, para-table tennis, para-powerlifting and weightlifting, with athletics producing the largest contingent – 33, followed by wrestling, which has 11.
A total of 94 athletes are expected to be accompanied by 21 technical personnel to the Games, which hold from July 28 to August 8.
