Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi Man of the Match, after helping Kaizer Chiefs qualify for their first ever Champions League final.
CAF made the announcement in a statement on their verified Twitter handle on Sunday.
Akpeyi returned from a head injury to give a five star performance as, Kaizer Chiefs held visiting Wydad AC to a goalless draw and qualify 1-0 on aggregate for the final.
In the votes that was casted by fans, Akpeyi polled 55 per cent to emerge to clinch the award.
CAF published a short video of Akpeyi in action against Wydad, and then wrote:”Daniel Akpeyi was voted the TotalEnergies Man of the Match from Kaizer Chiefs’ vs Wydad A C clash.”
Saturday’s goalless draw means Akpeyi is yet to concede a goal in the CAF Champions League this season (6 games – 8 hours and 11 minutes of football).
After the game, Akpeyi lavished praise on Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung, calling the South African administrator a “reflection of hard work”.
“You deserve the smile Mr Chairman, you’ve been patient through the years, you are a true reflection of hard work with faith and patience do pay off,” the 34-year-old wrote on Instagram.
Kaizer Chiefs will now face reigning African champions Al Ahly in the Caf Champions League final billed for July 17 at Stade Mohammed V, Casablanca.
