The number of casualties from an attack on an army unit in Burkina Faso that occurred on February 17, 2023, has risen to 51.
The ambush took place in the Oudalan province of the Sahel region, between the towns of Deou and Oursi.
The area was reinforced, and an unspecified number of those injured were transported to the hospital.
Burkina Faso has been struggling with violent attacks for the past seven years, mainly attributed to the Al Qaeda and Islamic State insurgents.
These violent attacks have caused thousands of deaths and displaced millions, creating a severe humanitarian crisis.
This latest attack occurred, as French special forces, comprising a total of 400 soldiers, were preparing to leave Burkina Faso, following the junta government’s order for their departure a month ago.
Concerns are being raised that such attacks could become more frequent in the future.
