Despite public outcry, the Nigerian Senate on Thursday screened Lauretta Onochie, Aide to President Muhammadu Buhari for appointment as National Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Her nomination provoked public outcry after it was announced earlier this year, as many Nigerians including the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who noted that Onochie is a card-carrying member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and by virtue of her political affiliation with the party, is not fit and proper to be appointed as an election officer.
Onochie however arrived at the Senate wing of the National Assembly about 11 am on Thursday, accompanied by the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters, Babajide Omoworare.
She was immediately ushered into the office of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on INEC, Senator Kabiru Gaya.
