The need for Nigerian Universities to dig deeper into research and development has been emphasized.
The emphasis was made by the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Content and Development Board (NCDMB) Engr. Simbi Kesiye Wabote when the management of the University of Port Harcourt UNIPORT paid him a courtesy visit at the board’s headquarter building in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Delivering his opening remarks, the University’s acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stephen Okodudu explained that the visit was aimed at familiarizing the board with the activities of the University.
He also revealed the interests of the University to collaborate with the board in promoting local content participation in academic and educational strides.
Responding, Engr. Simbi commended the university for the visit and its track record in academic excellence.
He also challenged the institution on solving the problems they have with power supply through local generation, as well as dive deeper into research and development.
It is worthwhile to note the challenge will enable UNIPORT better collaborate with the board which has been recording massive gains amid its journey to 70% Nigerian content target.
More so, the board holds education in high esteem and desires that its impact is felt in the nation’s educational sector.
An attestation to such drive was its facilitation of STEM Education training for 1,500 teachers in Bayelsa and Katsina States, among numerous other strategic initiatives.
