Serbian Tennis star Novak Djokovic on Sunday pulled a deserved victory against Norwegian counterpart Casper Ruud to win the 2023 French Open title.
In securing the victory, Djokovic historically sealed his 23rd Grand Slam singles title.
The 36-year-old beat the Norwegian in straight sets, 7-6(1) 6-3 7-5, to win his third title at Roland Garros – and stand alone at the top of the men’s game.
Significant Grand Slam Record
Djokovic now holds 23 Grand Slam singles titles, putting him ahead of the 22 titles earned by Rafael Nadal in his stellar career to date.
Roger Federer is in third on 20.
Djokovic also becomes the first man to win all four majors at least three times.
The victory will also see Djokovic return to the top of the world rankings.
He will now have the opportunity to tie Court’s record at Wimbledon next month, a place where he has already won seven times and will be the favourite to equal Roger Federer’s record tally of men’s titles.
