World Tennis Star, Novak Djokovic, early Monday morning, sustained grit to beat his closest challenger Daniil Medvedev in the final of the 2023 US Open.
It was a victory that ensured he grabbed a 4th US Open crown and 24th Grand Slam at New York.
The win didn’t come any easy for the Serbian who had missed the 2022 edition due to his refusal to bow to COVID-19 protocol.
Clinical, Yet Daunting
The 36-year-old Djokovic, a Grand Slam specialist held on to produce a 6-3 7-6(5) 6-3 victory at Flushing Meadows.
He knew exactly what to expect this term as he lost to Medvedev at the same court two years ago.
Djokovic came into the match boasting an outrageous 38-2 record this year after winning the opening set, so Medvedev immediately knew he was up against it as the second began in front of an expectant crowd.
Serb Record
The Serb has become the first man to win three Grand Slam titles in a season on as many as four occasions.
He has matched Margaret Court’s all-time tally of Grand Slams.
And perhaps most remarkably, Djokovic has accomplished that despite competing against Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in the greatest era the men’s game has witnessed.
