Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba has congratulated Kelechi Iheanacho’s new team mate at Leicester City Patson Daka following his move to the King Power Stadium.
Daka joined the Foxes from Austrian side RB Salzburg for an initial fee of £23million, thus becoming their first signing of the summer transfer window.
The Zambia international scored 68 goals and provided 27 assists in 125 appearances for Salzburg. That included 34 goals in 42 games in all competitions in 2020-21.
Daka may be the new hotshot coming to town but he will have stiff competition for a Leicester City starting spot up against Jamie Vardy and Nigerian star Iheanacho – who finished the season as the club’s top scorer with 14 goals in 15 games.
“I’m so, so excited to be able to be part of this great, historic club,” Daka told LCFC TV. “It has been my dream and I’m so happy and excited.
“I’m looking forward to what’s coming next so much. I can’t believe it right now that I’m already wearing this great shirt. I feel like I’m already on the pitch from here.
“I can’t wait and it means so much to me to be honest. I’m just so happy. My dream has come true today.
“I am from Salzburg, where we are used to winning trophies at the end of the year, so that winning mentality, I have a feeling it’s what the Leicester team has too.
“I feel it’s a perfect place for me because it’s a team that fights for titles, it’s a team that is hungry, with young, talented players.
“I’m so excited that I will be part of such a team where they have that hunger in them to win trophies at the end of the day.”
After the transfer was announced, the 22-year-old received a message from Chelsea great Didier Drogba.
Former Ivory Coast international Drogba said to his fellow African on Twitter: “Congrats to @PatsonDaka20 for your @LCFC move. Welcome to the @premierleague.”
Daka replied to Drogba with the words: “Thank you legend.”
Drogba scored 104 Premier League goals and set up 55 more in 254 appearances for Chelsea.
He won four Premier League titles with the London club and two Golden Boots for finishing as the league’s top scorer.
