After strings of winless performances, Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has slammed his former club’s new owners.
Drogba who spoke after Chelsea succumbed to a 0-4 aggregate quarter-final UEFA Champions League loss to Real Madrid on Tuesday April 18, 2023, said the current Chelsea owners – Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital lack class since the club was sold last year by Roman Abramovich
Chelsea’s nightmare season was compounded at Stamford Bridge when the 14-time champions league winners slipped to 0-2 defeat.
The loss extended Chelsea’s winless run in all competitions to seven matches with interim boss Frank Lampard overseeing their fourth loss in a row.
Influential personnel at Chelsea such as Bruce Buck, Marina Granovskaia and Petr Cech left the club soon after Boehly’s consortium completed a full takeover of the London club in May 2022.
Drogba had scored the Blues’ winning penalty in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich in 2012, when they won their first ever continental competition.
Meanwhile, Drogba, an Ivorian international Drogba has advised Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen, not to consider a move to Ligue 1 club, Paris Saint-Germain.
The Ligue 1 champions are among the clubs looking to sign Osimhen this summer.
Osimhen regards Drogba as his role model.
Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Arsenal are among other clubs seeking the Nigerian international’s signature.
