The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Alieu Touray, has commended the people of Ghana for the successful and largely peaceful conduct of their presidential and parliamentary elections held on December 7, 2024.
Touray extended his congratulations to John Dramani Mahama on his electoral victory and lauded Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for his timely concession, describing it as a demonstration of statesmanship and a deep commitment to the nation.
The elections were monitored by the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission, led by Mohammed Namadi Sambo, former Vice President of Nigeria. ECOWAS deployed 21 long-term observers (LTOs) and 120 short-term observers (STOs) across Ghana’s 16 regions and 216 districts to comprehensively assess the electoral process.
In his remarks after visiting several polling stations, Namadi Sambo praised the peaceful and orderly conduct of the voting process.
ECOWAS reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the people and government of Ghana throughout the electoral process, in accordance with the ECOWAS Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance of 2001.
