Nigeria’s former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Michael Aondoakaa (SAN) has denied any involvement as suggested in a video trending online that he allegedly granted an interview exposing the Justices of the Appeal Court that sat over the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT).
A trending video had claimed that Aondoakaa allegedly granted an interview on the last week of the verdict of the tribunal which affirmed the victory of President Bola Tinubu, as duly elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to a statement on Monday, the former Chief law officer of the Federation during the late President Umar Yar’ Adua, administration distanced himself from the trending video.
Aondoakaa denied granting any interview on the verdict passed by Justices of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal over the February 25 presidential election that led to the declaration of Tinubu as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Heritage Times HT recalls that INEC had announced President Tinubu winner of the polls, a move that led former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, of the People’s Democratic Party and former Governor Peter Obi, of the Labour Party to challenge the victory in court.
Aondoakaan maintained that it was never in his character to comment on matters that are in court both in the conventional media or public glare. “As a Senior lawyer, it is rather my duty to protect and safeguard the integrity of the Honourable Justices who sat on Presidential Tribunal. They did their best for the country and any aggrieved party has a right to appeal to the Supreme Court,” he said.
He further called on the Nigerian security agencies to launch an investigation into the matter and unravel those behind the act.
