Elon Musk has just taken the lead as the most followed individual on Twitter, surpassing former US President Barack Obama.
A report from traffic analysis and audit website Speakrj revealed that Musk had 133,072,641 followers on Twitter, while Obama had 133,043,284 followers as of Thursday morning.
It’s worth noting that Musk’s Twitter account was created in 2009, two years after Obama’s account was created in 2007.
Musician Justin Bieber is in third place with 113,307,820 million followers, trailing behind Obama and Musk.
Other famous individuals with a large Twitter following include Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Cristiano Ronaldo, Donald J. Trump, and Lady Gaga.
For years, Obama held the top spot as the most followed individual on Twitter until Musk took the lead with a narrow margin of around 27,357 followers.
However, as of December 2022, Musk’s number of followers on Twitter was at 120,926,580, while Obama already crossed the 133 million mark.
According to Speakrj, Obama had 128,733,873 followers in January 2021, cementing his position as the most followed man for nearly two years before Musk took over.
Musk’s acquisition of Twitter undeniably contributed to the significant growth of his followers on the platform.
His popularity on Twitter soared in June 2022 when it was reported that he was interested in buying Twitter.
During that period, Musk reached the 100 million follower milestone on Twitter, becoming the sixth person on the platform to achieve a nine-digit follower count.
