Former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has warned EndSARS protesters to refrain from pushing for the erosion or destruction of the democratic process that gave them the freedom to protest.
Tinubus’s warning followed the reported attacks on lives and properties that have trailed the campaigns in some states across the nation.
The former Senator who commended the significant progress the protest has made within a short period, insisted that the youth ought to be careful not to fritter away such gains due to lack of moderation and strategic thinking.
He however, justified the deployments of soldiers to the streets to arrest escalating protest which he perceived could be going in the direction of anarchy.
According to him, “The intent of the organisers of the protests is to achieve stated objectives on police reform, which the government has in principle accepted. It can certainly not be their motive to cause generalised anarchy or effect regime change.
“If they give the impression that that is their goal, then any government will necessarily have to act with the requisite decisiveness and force to restore law and order and preserve constitutional rule,” he maintained.
The protests, which have been ongoing for about 2 weeks across the country, have in some cases gone out of hand in Lagos and Abuja with suspected hoodlums attacking #EndSARS protesters as well as pro-SARS groups.
Reactions have trailed such scenes, as some persons have insisted that the attacks are being politically fueled.
Tinubu, also appealed to the protesters to call off the protests and give government a chance to implement their demands.
