The Commonwealth Medical Association, CMA has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to guarantee physicians and healthcare workers unfettered access to care for injured victims of #EndSARS protests.
The association has also called for transparent investigation into “reports of callous assault and murder of defenceless civilian protesters at the Lekki Toll Plaza in Lagos”.
These were contained in a statement issued by the president of the association Dr Osahon Enabulele on Wednesday while reacting to the alleged prevention of ambulance services and medical care for the injured victims by the military following the killings at Lekki on Tuesday.
Dr Enabulele, who lamented that the protesters were only demanding for end in police brutality and reforms said CMA condemns the unwarranted murder of civilian protesters and gross assault on their fundamental human and health rights.
The president who called on the Government of Nigeria to urgently prevent further intimidation, assaults and murder of the peaceful protesters, added that government should ensure the arrest of criminals and hoodlums who are attacking peaceful demonstrators.
He also urged government to ensure strict adherence to existing International treaties on fundamental human rights, and international treaties that govern the treatment of civilians, as enshrined in the Geneva Declaration of 1949.
