Nigerian Youths today October 20, 2021 are currently having a memorial protest in remembrance slain youths during the #EndSARS protest that rocked the nation last year.
Youths had last year, began protesting police brutality especially those involving the Special Anti Robbery Squad alias SARS.
The protest took a detour after it was alleged that soldiers had killed protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos.
So far, youths have begun the memorial protest in other cities such as Abuja, Akure, Ibadan and Lagos while there have been reports of arrests.
In Osogbo, the Osun State capital, the Nigerian Police are positioned in strategic places.
The Police ate positioned in Ola-Iya, Old-Garage, Oke-Fia, Kaleyemi, and other places where protests were held in the past.
The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Wale Olokode, who was monitoring the operatives at Old-garage, Osogbo, said there had not been any street protest in Osogbo.
“The government has given those who want to mark the EndSARS memorial a venue to do the review of the event. There have been no arrests in Osun so far and I don’t pray there will be any,” he said.
In Lagos two persons have been arrested so far and many others have fled the scene after they were teargassed by Policemen.
In Abuja the nations capital city, police operatives are located in places like the Federal Secretariat, senate as well as other high profiled places. In Unity fountain on the other hand, an opposition group in solidarity with the current President Muhammadu Buhari are also on site. So far there hasn’t been attacks by hoodlums or an outbreak of violence.
