British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has allayed fears of football lovers over the fate of English Premier League in the wake of a new month-long national lockdown.
England like other Governments in Europe, came under pressure to contain a recent massive outbreak of the virus by imposing the new lockdown measure.
Addressing the country on the need for a return to the lockdown measure, Johnson said there was no other alternative than to tread the path of lockdown.
“Now is the time to take action because there’s no alternative,” Johnson said. “We have got to be humble in the face of nature. In this country, alas, as in much of Europe, the virus is spreading even faster than the reasonable worst-case scenario of our scientific advisers.”
Under the new lockdown which starts on Thursday, England’s population must stay at home except when exemptions apply, such as for work, education or exercise, while all but essential shops will close.
However, football and other elite sports would continue through the period of the lockdown, just as other essential services
The lockdown is expected to end on the 2nd of December 2020
