Two time continental champions Enyimba FC of Aba on Sunday night played a 1-1 draw with Rivers United on the final day of the just concluded playoffs in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to emerge Champions.
The playoffs happened after curtains were drawn for the regular season.
With the triumph, Enyimba also known as Aba Elephants have won the title a record nine times to return to the CAF Champions League.
How Enyimba Paddled Back To Reckoning
Enyimba being the most successful club in Nigeria both locally and continentally, netted first on the final matchday through a well taken shot by Ekene Awazie.
Moments later, Rivers United equalised through notable striker Nyima Nwagua.
At the end, Enyimba coached by Nigerian former international Finidi George, finished on the top of the log with the same points as Remo Stars, but with superior goal difference.
Both clubs would represent Nigeria at the next CAF Champions League.
While Rivers United and winners of Federation Cup will represent Nigeria at the CAF Confederation Cup.
Delta Queens Surprise Package
Earlier same day, Delta Queens beat Bayelsa Queens 2-1 to lift the women’s version of Nigeria’s apex League title.
The victory ensured that Delta also dethroned Bayelsa who emerged Champions of the Nigeria Women Football League in 2022.
The Delta Queens will now represent Nigeria at the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League.
