Nottingham Forest defeated Manchester City 1-0 at the weekend in one of the Premier League matches.
Forest, now four points ahead of Manchester City, secured victory courtesy of a lone strike by Callum Hudson-Odoi.
This means City have been reduced to battling for a place in next season’s Champions League after a dismal campaign, suffering their ninth league defeat this term.
With six titles in the past seven seasons, City have rarely had to worry about their place in the Premier League’s top four during the Pep Guardiola era, AFP reports.
Fifth-placed Chelsea, just one point behind City, will move above the champions if they beat lowly Leicester on Sunday.
Earlier, Liverpool opened up a 16-point lead at the top of the Premier League after thrashing Southampton 3-1.
Arsenal could reduce the gap when they face struggling Manchester United on Sunday.
