Nigeria’s Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi was man of the moment despite Everton’s home loss to Chelsea in one of English Premier League opening matches on Saturday August 6, 2022 inside Goodison Park.
The only goal of the encounter came via a penalty in favour of the visitors at the first half with Raheem Sterling tasting first competitive action in Chelsea colours.
The blues started the game on top, bossing possession. Latest signing Raheem Sterling looked fiery and lively, running the Chelsea attack.
However, Iwobi was strong in midfield, recording 47 touches with an 81 percent pass accuracy.
The former Arsenal man helped defensively with three clearances and two interceptions.
Everton carried the threat in the early stages of the second half, before the whistle eventually put the game to stop after dying minutes distraction from the fans’ stand which dragged the match 10 minutes in extra time.
The victory ensured that Chelsea broke more than 10 years record which had made it difficult for Everton to lose opening Premier League clash since 2011/12 season.
Goodison Park is not a ground Chelsea have enjoyed visiting all that much for some time.
