The Foreign Ministers of Ethiopia and Somalia have committed to continuing dialogue aimed at resolving their differences and promoting regional stability, according to an official press release from Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the invitation of Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Taye Atske-Selassie, and Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, met in Ankara, Turkey.
Facilitated by Turkey, the ministers had separate, open, and constructive discussions about their differences and explored ways to address them within a mutually acceptable framework.
The ministers reiterated their commitment to peacefully resolving their disputes and expressed their gratitude to Turkey for its facilitation and constructive contributions.
They agreed to continue the dialogue to resolve their issues and ensure regional stability. A second round of discussions is scheduled to take place in Ankara on September 2, 2024.
Both parties expressed their appreciation to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his initiative in facilitating these talks.
The dialogue marks a significant step towards regional stability, reflecting the commitment of Ethiopia and Somalia to work collaboratively.
This initiative is expected to foster improved relations and cooperation between the two nations, contributing to broader peace and stability in the Horn of Africa. The ongoing discussions underscore the importance of diplomatic engagement and international cooperation in resolving regional conflicts.
