Former Cameroon international and President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o is reportedly gearing up to take over the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
CAF election is slated for March 25, 2025.
Although, Eto’o has yet to make an official announcement, there are strong indications that he will enter the race.
The football legend is said to be seeking guidance from former CAF President Ahmad Ahmad as part of his preparation.
In addition to his CAF ambitions, Eto’o is reportedly grooming his trusted advisor, Mongue Nyamsi, to succeed him at Fecafoot, favoring him over current first vice president Celine Eko.
The current CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, is being urged to run for a second term after his unopposed election in 2021.
While Eto’o’s candidacy is generating significant buzz, some football stakeholders have raised concerns about his eligibility due to recent controversies.
Eto’o was recently fined for ethics breaches by CAF, casting a shadow over his potential bid for the presidency.
The former footballer was embroiled in disagreement with his country’s government regarding the appointment of the Cameroon senior men coach recently.
