England reached the semi-final of the Euro 2020 Championship for the first time since 1996 following a blistering 4-0 win over Ukraine in Rome.
The Three Lions are just two games away to end a 55-year run without an international trophy – with their last triumph coming at the 1966 World Cup hosted on home soil.
Interestingly, this year’s Euro final will be played at the iconic Wembley stadium as England edge closer to their first-ever continental glory.
However, Gareth Southgate’s men will have to cross one more hurdle before the fixture at Wembley, with Nigerian born Bukayo Saka eyeing his first title for country.
The Arsenal star can count himself as one of the most exciting talents at the ongoing Euro, and most notably, his role in Germany’s defeat in the round of 16.
Saka missed Saturday’s quarter-final win against Ukraine with injury. However, it is expected to be the only change in Southgate’s starting line-up at Wembley.
Saka was courted by Nigeria, and the teenager’s decision to accept his first call up to the senior England squad left Super Eagles fans heartbroken, ironically coming as it did on the 60th anniversary of the West African nation’s independence from Great Britain.
Although, his decision to represent England came as no surprise to anyone, given he was born and raised in England.
Several others, like John Fashanu, Carlton Cole, Nedum Onouha, Gabriel Agbolanhor, Dele Alli, Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori and the rest were lost in transit after they chose to play for England.
Yet, none can boast of a silverware in the colours of the Three Lions; which now puts Saka in a pole position to be the first to do so as England edge closer to their first Euro title.
