England kicked off their Euro 2020 campaign on a bright note as Raheem Sterling proved doubters wrong by grabbing a decisive goal in a 1-0 win over Croatia at Wembley.
Gareth Southgate’s men came close to scoring through Phil Foden in the opening six minutes, but his effort had hit the post.
Despite England’s dominance in the game, the Three Lions were unable to make a breakthrough before half time.
But England finally found a way past an organised Croatian defence as Kalvin Philipps’ driving run and neat pass found Sterling, and the Manchester City winger smashed his effort past Dominik Livakovic.
The Three Lions now move onto a big game against Scotland on 18 June after a perfect start.
Croatia will have to improve when they take on the Czech Republic on Friday. Zlatko Dalic’s side failed to cope with England’s midfield pressure and Jordan Pickford was barely troubled in the England goal.
