Samuel Chukwueze was in action before going off injured as Villareal held Arsenal to a 0-0 draw at the Emirates stadium on Thursday, to qualify for the final of this season’s UEFA Europa League.
The Nigerian international only saw 29 minutes of action before he was stretched off and replaced by 18-year-old Yeremi Pino.
The 21-year-old had provided an assist in the first leg which helped the Yellow Submarines cruise to a 2-1 victory of the North London club.
Howver, Gunners were just one goal away from reaching the final but were unable to overturn the deficit as they crashed out to Unai Emery’s Villareal.
Arsenal missed goal opportunities as two outstanding headed chances fell to Rob Holding, a central defender, who missed them both. The first, from a Bukayo Saka corner, went over, the next went wide.
Another opportunity presented itself as a cross from Hector Bellerin picked out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who saw his header hit a post before being hooked away by Raul Albiol. It was the Gabonese last chance of the game before being replaced.
The final which is between Manchester United and Villareal will hold in Gdansk, Poland on Wednesday May 26.
