Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen has been nominated by UEFA for the Europa League Goal of the Week and Player of the Week awards.
Osimhen ended his wait for a Europa League goal with a brace, as Napoli settled for a 2-2 draw against Leicester City on Thursday night.
The Foxes had taken the lead through goals from Ayoze Perez and Harvey Barnes, as the 23-year-old overcame an injury setback, to rescue a point for Luciano Spalletti’s men.
Osimhen will battle it out with West Ham United’s midfielder Declan Rice, Toko Ekambi of Olympic Lyon and Bayer Leverkusen star, Palacios for the Goal of the Week, while also being nominated alongside PSV Eindoven’s Mario Gotze and Real Betis’ Juanmi in the Player of the Week category.
Heading into the second-half with a two-goal disadvantage, Osimhen reduced the deficit in the 69th minute. Benefitting from a pass from Fabian, the African lifted the ball over Jannik Vestergaard before lobbing an on-rushing Schmeichel.
Three minutes from full time, Leicester City’s resistance was broken as Osimhen completed his double after heading home Politano’s cross.
His compatriots –Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho tasted action last night, but Ndidi found himself in the referee’s bad book after he was given the marching orders in injury time for a second caution.
Rodgers switched to a 4-3-3 formation, with Iheanacho getting the nod to start alongside, Zambian international Patson Daka and Barnes upfront.
It was the maiden start this season for the Super Eagle who was in a blistering form last term.
