A former Brighton and Newcastle Manager, Chris Hughton, has emerged as the new head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana.
This was confirmed via a press statement by the Ghana Football Association.
“The Ghana Football Association has the pleasure to appoint Chris Hughton as Head Coach of the Black Stars following extensive deliberations between the two parties.
“The appointment is in line with the vision of the GFA to continue with the project of building a formidable squad that started with Otto Addo in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament,” the statement said.
With his appointment, Hughton, who worked as a technical adviser for the team since February 2022, is tasked with taking the Black Stars to the next Africa Cup of Nations.
His immediate assignment will be in March, when his team go for another continental qualifying match.
En route to qualifying for next AFCON in the Ivory Coast, the Black Stars currently share the Group E lead with Angola on four points after two rounds, three above the Central African Republic and Madagascar.
The 64-year-old has also coached Birmingham, Norwich and Nottingham Forest.
He took over from Otto Addo who led the team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
