A top Nigerian Higher Institution and Citadel of learning, University of Uyo on Saturday conferred Honourary Doctorate degree on former Nigerian international Goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama.
The University is located in Uyo, South South, Nigeria.
Revealing the honour bestowed on him via his Instagram page, Enyeama said, “God has been my strength. He has been in the details. I can’t thank Him enough.
“I want to thank the University of Uyo’s Vice Chancellor and his team for conferring me with this great honorable award. God bless you, sir.
“I want to thank my wife #promisevincent, she has really been the bone from my ribs. God bless you and your family.
“I want to thank my family for always standing by me no matter the circumstances. To my fans and supporters, I love you guys. Thank you. A new title has been added to me. This is the Lord’s doing.”
Remembering Unceremonious Exit Of An Outstanding Goalkeeper
Heritage Times HT recalls that Enyeama, one of the safest hands the country and Africa have had, retired from the Nigeria’s senior men National team unceremoniously after the hierarchy of the Nigeria Football Federation masterminded his removal as captain.
He was also subjected to other unfair treatments before he decided to take a final bow from playing for Nigeria.
Since his exit from the Super Eagles, the team has continued to struggle in the goalkeeping department till date, with series of shambolic displays by succeeding Nigerian goalkeepers, a situation that has caused the country from qualifying and advancing in major football tournaments.
