Popular Islamic Scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has clarified that he is not the only one privy to information about the hideouts of killer-herdsmen and bandits.
The clarification is not unconnected to growing concerns about how possible it could be for Gumi to locate and meet with bandits while the Nigerian Army and the Police could not identify their locations.
Speaking on Channels TV “Politics Today” on Monday, Gumi said: “They (government) know. They see them (bandits) by aerial view. But the military has learned its lesson.
According to him: “The first approach they had— when they go in and start killing— they realised is the wrong way and that they were producing a monster. They are now careful.
“The only element I am adding now is ‘look, don’t just wait and watch, go in and negotiate’.”
It is worthwhile to note that the popular Islamic Cleric has been holding meetings with criminal elements in the North who he said have grievances.
He is also advocating blanket amnesty for killer-herdsmen, Bandits with a view to bringing an end to insecurity bedeviling the North.
