FIFA President, Gianni Infantino has picked Egypt and Morocco as the two African countries that are capable of hosting the World Cup.
South Africa who were the host nation in 2010 is the only country from Africa to have hosted the quadrennial tournament to date since its inception in 1930.
According to kingfut, Egypt are keen to submit a joint bid with Morocco to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Earlier, Egypt’s Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhi had revealed plans by the North African nation to place bids for the 2030 FIFA World Cup and also the 2032 Olympic Games.
Infantino who was speaking after witnessing the Arab Cup final won by Algeria, revealed that the two North African countries have the means and capacity to host the FIFA World Cup in the future.
It is possible to hold the World Cup in an Arab country, such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt after they succeeded in organizing the AFCON, and Morocco, who submitted a file to host the global event”, Football governing body’s president told MBC as per Kingfut.
“We just have to determine whether the tournament will be held every two years or every four years.
“Qatar succeeded in organizing the Arab Cup, and we saw that through the eight stadiums that were set up in an area not exceeding 60 kilometers, which will allow the fans to watch four matches in one day.
“I received many calls during the Arab Cup demanding that the competition be organized more often, and I support this. Arab countries are eligible to host the World Cup. The Arab public deserves the best.
“I think that the Arab Cup imposed itself after millions watched it, especially in the knockout rounds. The tournament succeeded by all standards.
“The Arab Cup will not conflict with the Asian Cup, the tournament will benefit Asian and African football as well,” Infantino concluded.
Egypt and Morocco had earlier submitted bids to hosts the World Cup back in 2010, but lost out to South Africa, with the Egyptians receiving no votes, while Morocco got 10 votes losing out to South Africa who garnered 14 votes.
