As expected, the World football governing body, FIFA, on Thursday released the August version of football rankings, and there were no notable movement among the top 50 teams.
Understandably, most countries remained on same due to lack of football activities in the month under review.
Africa’s first five countries are within that top 50 status with Senegal and Nigeria retaining top one and four positions, including Morocco, Tunisia and Cameroon in the pack as the second, third and fifth nations, according to the ranking table published on FIFA’s verified page on Thursday August 25, 2022.
Globally, Senegal sits 18th, Morocco 23rd, Tunisia 30th, Nigeria 31st and Cameroon 38th.
For Nigeria, Super Eagles last played their competitive football during the qualifier of the 2023 African Cup Nations.
Brazil remains on top of the world ranking, ahead of Belgium, Argentina, France, and England respectively, just as five other countries following maintained their July placements.
Only Iran in 22nd position and FIFA World Cup hosts Qatar in 48th moved up one place each.
Outside the Top 100 in addition to the aforementioned African duo, Mozambique (116th, plus 2) and Angola (120th, plus 2) also made up ground among CAF sides, as did Bermuda (168th, plus 2) in Concacaf.
