World Football governing body, FIFA, will mostly likely announce Morocco, as the new 2023 U17 World Cup host.
This is after Peru was stripped of the hosting right due to the country’s failure to meet standard requirements in terms of facilities and infrastructure.
Among the countries that have shown interest in staging the tournament, some FIFA Executive Committee members seem to have a preference for the North African country.
Before now, FIFA said the new host will be announced soon.
Heritage Times HT reports that should Morocco get the new hosting right, the country will be the first country to qualify automaically.
This year’s competition is slated between November 10 and December 2, 2023.
Similar change of hosting right befell the U20 World Cup, after FIFA stopped Indonesia from hosting the tournament due to their refusal to accommodate Israel, one of the countries that qualified.
To arrest the situation, FIFA cleared Argentina to now host the competition, which kicks off on May 20, 2023.
It will climax on June 11 same year.
