Finland has been declared the happiest country in the world for the sixth consecutive year, according to the latest World Happiness Report.
The report, compiled annually by US scientists using surveys from the Gallup Institute, analyzed the impact of the coronavirus crisis on people’s well-being.
Denmark, Iceland, Israel, The Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and New Zealand rounded out the top ten happiest countries.
Meanwhile, Austria and Australia claimed the 11th and 12th positions, respectively, while Germany slipped to 16th place, down two spots from 2022.
On the other hand, Afghanistan and Lebanon remained the unhappiest countries in the survey.
Interestingly, the researchers noted that people’s evaluation of happiness remained “remarkably resilient” despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Global averages from 2020 to 2022 were just as high as those from 2017 to 2019, indicating that overall well-being has not been significantly impacted by the pandemic.
