A 35-storey high-rise building in Dubai next to the Burj Khalifa, the highest structure in the world, caught fire early on Monday morning.
The apartment building fire, which had been put out by the time of filing this report, was still under investigation as to whether any injuries had been reported.
The structure, which is a part of the 8 Boulevard Walk collection of buildings by Emaar, the emirate’s state-backed developer, was covered in black char marks left over from the fire.
The fire was not immediately acknowledged by the Dubai police or civil defense. Both Emaar and the Dubai Media Office of the city-state failed to reply right away to requests for comment.
Recent fires in big buildings in Dubai’s skyscraper-filled city have raised concerns about the safety of the cladding and other building materials used there.
One of Dubai’s most opulent hotels and condominiums, the Address Downtown, which is close to the Burj Khalifa, was destroyed by fire on New Year’s Eve in 2015.
