Chelsea will be without Mason Mount, Jorginho, Thiago Silva and Tammy Abraham when they battle Atlectico Madrid in the second leg of their last 16 tie on Wednesday night.
Although, the Blues will enter the clash with a slight advantage, having recorded a 1 – 0 victory in the first leg between the two sides last month.
The West London team are still unbeaten under the leadership of Thomas Tuchel but were held to a goalless draw by Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Midfield duo of Mount and Jorginho will be serving a one match suspension after due to the booking they both picked up in the first leg against Atletico.
Thomas Tuchel had confirmed that he opted to rest Matteo Kovacic against Leeds United as a result of the suspension.
He said pre-match: “Normally I don’t like to do this but in central midfield we miss Jorgi and Mason on Wednesday so we took the decision to give Kova a rest and don’t take the risk, because normally this is his game to start also. But we have two suspensions so we went for this decision.”
While, Abraham and Silva have both been suffering a serious injury setback on the road to recovery, which pens them as major doubts for Wednesday’s showdown.
This leaves the 47-year-old with none other option than settling for the defensive pair of Antonio Rudiger and Andrea Christensen, while Oliver Giroud would lead the attack once again, after he smashed home an overhead kick in the first-leg to put Chelsea in pole for qualification.
