Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has suspended his Special Adviser on Media, Salihu Yakasai, who criticized President Muhammadu Buhari for the manner which he was handling the #EndSARS protest.
Salihu Yakasai had in a tweet on Sunday slammed President Buhari for his failure to directly adress young Nigerians demanding the end of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), stressing that “Buhari has zero empathy for Nigerians.”
It wasn’t long before the state’s Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba issued a statement from Governor Ganduje informing Yakasai of his immediate suspension.
The Governor who acknowledged that the tweet was Yakasai’s personal opinion, added that the aide’s position as a public figure makes it difficult to differentiate between personal opinion and official position on matters of public concern.
Ganduje therefore warned political appointees and public servants against making statements capable of drawing unnecessary controversy and heating up the polity.
The statement also reaffirmed the commitment of the governor to supporting the policies and programmes of President Buhari’s administration.
