Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, has named a preparatory team tasked with laying the groundwork for his anti-corruption agenda ahead of his inauguration.
The team is headed by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah, Chairman of Parliament’s Committee on Assurances, who has previously flagged suspected cases of state corruption. Ablakwah represents North Tongu in Parliament.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the Mahama Transition Team outlined the objective of the anti-corruption group as part of a broader initiative under the banner “Operation Recover All Loot” (ORAL).
The statement, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson for the Transition Team, highlighted the team’s role, which includes gathering information on alleged acts of corruption ahead of Mahama’s swearing-in.
“As a preparatory measure towards the rollout of H.E. John Dramani Mahama’s promise to recover proceeds of corruption and hold persons responsible for such corruption accountable when he assumes office, a team has been set up to receive and gather information from members of the public and other sources on suspected acts of corruption,” the statement read.
During his campaign, the President-elect pledged to make the fight against corruption a key policy thrust.
Under “Operation Recover All Loot,” Mahama has promised to actively pursue individuals and entities involved in corrupt practices to recover funds and restore public trust in government.
Other members of the team include Daniel Domelevo, a former Auditor-General celebrated for his anti-corruption stance during his tenure; COP (Rtd.) Nathaniel Kofi Boakye, a retired Commissioner of Police with extensive experience in law enforcement; Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner and anti-corruption advocate; and Raymond Archer, an investigative journalist renowned for uncovering corruption.
